INFO 200: Foundations of Informatics, UBC iSchool, Winter Term I, 2025

This class is a required class for the Informatics minor, introducing students to the field of information studies and foundational theories and key concepts that explore sociotechnical processes and information infrastructure. I adapted lectures, updated readings and class assignments, and created new rubrics for sixty-four registered undergraduate students. I supervised one teaching assistant, meeting on a weekly basis to advise on grading and teaching practices. I held weekly office hours that were well-attended, which gave the opportunity to mentor students individually. On the student experience of instruction surveys, I received more responses than the recommended number for my class size, with the majority of the feedback being favorable. This was my first time teaching this course and my first time as the Instructor of Record. It helped me develop my facilitation and lecture skills, my grading skills, and practice in mentoring students. This experience has prepared me to lead more classes throughout my academic career.
