Teaching
The core of my teaching philosophy is the belief that my students are learners with their own agency and my primary responsibility as an instructor is to meet my students where they are at in their own learning. I draw much of my inspiration for this from Paulo Freire’s seminal text Pedagogy of the Oppressed and its egalitarian view of education; I first and foremost view my students as co-creators in their own education and our shared learning environment. In addition to this, I strive to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment where students can be led toward their own ways of critical thinking and understanding. I am particularly interested in undergraduate information science pedagogy and how the field of information science can contribute to teaching in the era of generative AI.
